The Tower Project – meeting reminder Monday 15th June

The Tower Project is an exciting initiative to preserve and restore the Church Tower at St. Mary’s which is one of our community’s most historic and recognisable landmarks. Following last year’s Annual Parish meeting, where attendees heard that the tower had been placed on the Historic England Heritage at Risk Register, volunteers have spent the past year researching restoration projects at other churches, meeting with architects and stonemasons, and learning more about the restoration process and the role of the St Albans Diocese.

A church-approved architect has been appointed, who is preparing a programme of works and obtaining quotations for the next stages of the project. Preparations are also underway to clear and organise the inside of the tower ahead of restoration work.

As the project moves into the community launch phase, residents are invited to come along to two identical information sessions at Marston Moreteyne Community Centre:
Monday 15th June (7–8pm) or Saturday 20th June (11am–12pm).

These sessions will explore how we can work together to care for this remarkable building, share ideas for its future use, and encourage volunteers to support areas such as fundraising, social media, website development, National Lottery funding bids, and the creation of a Friends of The Tower group.
