At the Parish Council meeting held on Tuesday 21 July, a number of important community matters were discussed.
Church End School Building Works
A resident, speaking on behalf of others living in Church Walk, raised concerns about the very short notice given by Central Bedfordshire Council (CBC) regarding the upcoming building works at Church End School. Residents are understandably concerned about the additional parking and traffic issues during school drop-off and pick-up times in an area that is already heavily congested. Marston Moreteyne Parish Council (MMPC) has previously raised these concerns with CBC and will continue to press for improvements.
Central Bedfordshire Local Plan
MMPC will be submitting objections to the proposed development sites identified in the new Central Bedfordshire Local Plan, particularly those north of the A421 and on either side of the Shelton’s. This area represents the last remaining part of the parish that retains its traditional linear village character.
The Council believes the flood risk in these locations is clear and, with a further 5,000 homes already planned as part of the Marston Vale development, Marston Moreteyne has already experienced significant growth and should be given time to absorb this level of development.
We strongly encourage every resident to take part in the Central Bedfordshire Council Local Plan consultation. This is your opportunity to have your say on proposals that could shape the future of our parish for many years to come. Whether you support or oppose the plans, it is important that your views are heard.

Lower Shelton Link Road
The Council will once again raise concerns about the deteriorating condition of the roadside edges along the Lower Shelton Link Road. Significant dips have developed along the carriageway edge, creating a risk of vehicle damage if drivers are forced off the road. The roadside grass also requires cutting to improve visibility and safety.
War Memorial
MMPC will be commissioning a thorough clean of the War Memorial, together with repairs to the stone pillars and boundary chain, in preparation for the November Remembrance event.
Supporting the Community
The Parish Council will continue to make the Community Centre available free of charge to Vale Community Church for its weekly Tuesday community meal, The Table. This initiative provides a welcoming opportunity for local people to come together.
The Council has also agreed to provide a grant to the Playing Field Committee to enable them to make an insurance claim that will help fund essential tree works.
Marston in Bloom
Our Parish Council staff have done an excellent job maintaining the Marston in Bloom planters. During the current hot weather, they require frequent watering. If you notice a planter looking particularly dry and are able to help by giving it some water, it would be greatly appreciated.
Summer Break
The Parish Council will not be meeting during August, with the next meeting taking place in September.
