Home to School Transport – September 2026
If you think your child may be eligible for Home to School Transport, please submit your application as soon as possible.
Application deadlines
The application deadlines for the 2026/27 academic year were:
- Secondary and Upper Schools: 31 March 2026
- Primary, Lower and Middle Schools: 19 May 2026
These deadlines have now passed, so any new applications will be treated as late applications.
Late applications are processed as quickly as possible and, in the order, they are received. To help us assess your application and, where appropriate, arrange transport as soon as possible, please submit your application at the earliest opportunity.
Please be aware that transport arrangements for late applications may not be in place for the start of the autumn term and, in some cases, may not be completed until after the October half-term.
Post-16 students
The application deadline for Post-16 Home to School Transport is 15 July 2026. If your child is eligible for Post-16 travel assistance, please ensure your application is submitted by this date.
When can I apply?
You can only apply for Home to School Transport once your child’s school place has been confirmed.
If your child has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), you can apply for SEND transport as soon as their school placement has been confirmed and the EHCP has been finalised.
Please note that all applications are assessed in accordance with Central Bedfordshire Council’s Home to School Transport Policy, and applying does not guarantee eligibility.

Important update: Young Person’s Card bus fare change from 1 September
We’d like to make you aware of an upcoming change to the Young Person (YP) Card discounted bus travel scheme, which may affect students and their families.
From 1 September, the YP Card fare will increase from £1 to £1.50 per journey.
The scheme has been very successful since launching, with over 7,000 cards issued and more than 500,000 discounted journeys made. However, due to the high level of use, the cost of running the scheme has increased significantly.
Even with this adjustment, the YP Card remains:
- A great value option for young people
- Valid on journeys starting or finishing anywhere in Central Bedfordshire – including places outside Central Beds such as Milton Keynes, Hitchin, Stevenage, Aylesbury and Cambridge.
- Priced at around half the national bus fare cap
