Extreme heat alert has been issued

An extreme heat alert is active.

Hot weather can pose serious health risks, especially for:

  • older adults with health conditions
  • babies and young children
  • people taking multiple medications

How to stay safe in the heat:

  • drink plenty of water and avoid excess alcohol
  • keep cool with light clothing, shade, and fans
  • stay indoors between 11am and 3pm where possible
  • use SPF 30+ sunscreen with high UVA protection
  • stay in the shade, wear a hat and loose, light clothing
  • avoid intense exercise during the hottest parts of the day
  • keep prams shaded and well ventilated
  • check in on vulnerable neighbours or relatives

Small, closed spaces such as stationary cars can get dangerously hot very quickly.

Make sure that babies, children, older people and pets are not left alone in stationary cars or other closed spaces.

Changes to waste collections

Our waste collection crews will be starting their rounds earlier in the morning throughout this week (until Friday 26 June), to complete more of their work during cooler hours.

To help us manage this change, please put your bin(s) out either the night before your scheduled collection day or by 6am on the day itself. Please help your neighbours by letting them know.

We appreciate your support in helping our crews stay safe and beat the heat.

Emergency support for people sleeping rough in hot weather

Our Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) will be activated tomorrow morning, Tuesday 23 June, because temperatures are forecast to rise to approximately 34 degrees over the coming days.

Noah Enterprise will be providing severe weather advice, water, sun cream, and other resources in order to safeguard the health of people sleeping rough.

If you see someone sleeping rough, the kindest thing you can do for them is contact our network, and we’ll make sure they are offered support.
